Lil Wayne Album Still Due In February, Label Insists
After online reports suggested that Lil Wayne's oft-delayed "Rebirth" album was once again delayed, this time to June 22nd, the rapper's publicist tells Billboard.com that the rumors are incorrect and the rock-leaning set is still scheduled for a Feb. 2 release.
As exclusively reported on Billboard.com last month, 500 copies of "Rebirth" -- which has received six different release dates starting April 7, 2009 -- were mistakenly shipped to Amazon customers who pre-ordered the album. This caused the album to leak on the internet more than six weeks before the official release date.
Consequently, "Rebirth," which will be available just a week before Lil Wayne is sentenced in New York for possession of a weapon on Feb. 9, is now said to include all new tracks, according to Young Money President Mack Maine, who last month tweeted: "Leaked 09 Rebirth isn't going to be 2010 Rebirth."
"Rebirth" was originally set to be packaged alongside the Young Money collective's "We Are Young Money" album, but even when the date was pushed to Feb. 2, the "Young Money" album arrived on Dec. 21 -- its last scheduled release date. The Young Money album has sold 186,000 copies in the United States to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
