Mark Mothersbaugh, Danny Elfman and Brian Tyler picked up three awards each for their work on films and television series May 14 at BMI’s annual Film/TV Awards at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

BMI composers scored films that grossed more than $5 billion at the box office, BMI president Del Bryant announced at the ceremony. Alexandre Desplat, Mark Isham, Junkie XL, Christopher Lennertz and Michael Penn were among the honorees on hand to receive their awards.

Oscar-winning composer Mychael Danna received the Richard Kirk Award. Danna, composer of “Life of Pi” and “Moneyball” and known for his long-time artistic relationship with director Atom Egoyan, said "I'm proud and happy to be associated with ancient world of storytelling. My deepest joy is through my collaborations -- these are the things that stick with you."

Earlier in the evening, composer Randy Edelman and journalist-author-educator Jon Burlingame were honored with special awards. Edelman, whose credits include “The Last of the Mohicans”and “While You Were Sleeping,” received the BMI Spotlight Award in recognition of the use of his theme for “The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.” in Olympic games for nearly two decades.

Burlingame, an author of four books, the most recent being “The Music of James Bond,” was given a Special Citation of Appreciation for his expertise in film music. "All I wanted to do was call attention to a part of the industry that gets none," he said after a video showed featuring composers discussing Burlingame's talents.

Mike Post received his 51st Film and TV Award; Atli Örvarsson, composer of NBC's "Chicago Fire" and "Chicago P.D.," won his first two.
