Backbeat: Varèse Sarabande Records Celebrates 35th Anniversary with Giacchino and 'Star Trek'

Film and TV composers were out in force to support Varèse Sarabande on the label’s 35th anniversary at the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro, Calif. Michael Giacchino conducted the world premiere of his music from “Star Trek Into Darkness” as part of Varèse Sarabande Records 35th anniversary concert May 11 at the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro, Calif.

Steven Allen Fox conducted the Golden State Pops Orchestra through film work by leading composers such as Jerry Goldsmith, Alex North, John Powell, Mark Isham and Brian Tyler. Hans Zimmer and Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger performed the end title theme from “Driving Miss Daisy”; composer Cliff Eidelman conducted the orchestra’s performance of Goldsmith’s score for “Rudy.”

Varèse Sarabande’s Robert Townson, who has produced more than 1,000 albums for the label, was host for the event.

The event was part of Varèse Sarabande 35th anniversary global concert series that will include shows in Poland, Spain and Austria this summer. Other European and U.S. concerts will be announced for the fall.
