The morning session of the 2011 Billboard/Hollywood Reporter Film & TV Music conference outlined the pitfalls and opportunities for those trying to create or license music to other media. As Bill Werde, Editorial Director of Billboard put it in his opening remarks, that's "the most dynamic part of the industry, but one where "fewer and fewer people are making money," from their work.

The early panels featured composers Jeff Toyne and Gingger Shankar explaining how they met and formed productive working arrangements, television executives outlining, including Fox Broadcasting's Steve Celi and Disney Channel Worldwide's Steve Vincent explaining how they create the sonic identity for different channels, music supervisors such as Evan Bogart and Nora Felder doing real-time critiques of music provided by conference attendees, and Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park and Tears for Fears' Curt Smith discussing how they made the transition from performing in a band and writing scores for movies and TV.

Billboard.biz will have much more on the conference later today.
