Rock Lottery Brings Together Members of Ted Leo, Cave In, Afghan Whigs, Oneida, Others to Benefit Willie Mae Rock Camp

New York will have its fourth annual Rock Lottery this Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Knitting Factory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The annual event will bring 25 musicians together from bands such as Oneida, A Place to Bury Strangers, Cave In, Here We Go Magic and more (full-list below), placing them into five different bands via a lottery. The groups then tasked with writing three to five original songs -- and, perhaps most difficult, a band name -- within 12 hours. The groups then perform the day's work that night.

The selection of musicians are meant to represent a wide variety of musical styles in an attempt to bring together different facets of the Brooklyn music community that may seem incompatible. The challenge for these musicians is to go beyond their personal and musical differences and work together to create a unified group project that still contains the personal styles of each of the participants.

Alongside the Lottery will be a prize raffle including airfare, gift certificates and vinyl from labels such as Daptone, Beggars, Secretly Canadian and more. All proceeds from the concert and the raffle will be donated to the Willie Mae Rock Camp.

The Rock Lottery began in Denton, Texas in 1997 before spreading to Seattle and Brooklyn.

In the past, Brooklyn Rock Lottery has featured musicians from Antibalas, Asobi Seksu, Bear In Heaven, Buke & Gass, Caveman, Cheeseburger, The Dap-Kings, DARKSIDE, Deerhoof, Freelance Whales, Hold Steady, Hospitality, Javelin, Les Savy Fav, Liam Finn, Light Asylum, Liturgy, Lucius, Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, M83, My Morning Jacket, NAAM, North Highlands, Northern State, Oberhofer, Parts & Labor, Peelander-Z, Psychedelic Furs, Ra Ra Riot, Suckers, VHS or Beta, Warm Ghost, White Rabbits, and YUCK...among many others.
