Michael Rapino, CEO of Live Nation Entertainment, is having a banner year. In addition to record-setting revenues, Live Nation is expanding its management roster with the addition of U2 and Madonna along with their respective managers Paul McGuinness and Guy Oseary. And judging by today’s (Nov. 18) news that the company has partnered with Parallel Contemporary Music, a marketing company specializing in the Asian market, Live Nation is also making good on its promise to continue its global expansion. Billboard interviewed Mr. Rapino at the Billboard Touring Conference following his participation in a panel on the touring businesses' new rules. Here the chief executive discusses his company's outstanding year, expanding their management division, the “exploding” global music business ('from Columbia to Asia to Toronto, people want to see Rihanna"), the new crop of young artists filling stadiums and much more.
