Presidential Election 2012: Musicians on the Campaign Trail

For the third time this year, Bruce Springsteen earns the top ranking on the weekly list of Hot Tours with $27 million in ticket sales reported from the final eight European dates on his Wrecking Ball World Tour with the E Street Band. This year's three-month European leg began at the end of April and continued through July, wrapping with a two-day stint in Kilkenny, Ireland. Dubbed the Wrecking Ball Weekender, the outdoor stadium event was held on July 27 and 28 in Kilkenny's Nowlan Park and featured supporting acts during the afternoon, followed by Springsteen's headlining set beginning in the early evening. With sellout crowds in attendance on both days, the combined gross topped €4.7 million ($6.2 million) from 54,292 sold tickets. Overall revenue from the 2013 European leg of the tour totals $109.6 million from 26 dates, beginning with the two-show run on April 29 and 30 at Telenor Arena in Oslo. More than one million fans saw the tour during its final jaunt through Europe. Now in the homestretch, the Wrecking Ball Tour will wrap in South America this fall with concerts booked in Chile and Brazil.

Michael Bublé lands at No. 2 on the weekly Hot Tours recap with £10.5 million ($16 million) in ticket sales from a run of 10 shows at London's O2 Arena beginning on June 30 through July 13. The Canadian singer's 10-show gross is the highest of the year for a concert headliner at the famed London arena, surpassing Beyoncé, One Direction, Barbra Streisand, Justin Bieber, P!nk and others who have had multiple-performance runs at the 23,000-seat arena this year. It also places him in the company of Prince, Spice Girls, Bon Jovi and One Direction as artists who have played an engagement totaling ten shows or more at the O2, based on box office totals reported to Billboard.

Stadium headliners from the country music genre make their presence known on the Hot Tours tally as multi-million dollar grosses were reported during the past week for Kenny Chesney, Taylor Swift and Jason Aldean. Chesney has the No. 3 ranking, based on revenue reported from six stops on his No Shoes Nation Tour, including three stadiums. His best-attended event was a July 20 performance at Denver's Sports Authority Field at Mile High with a crowd of 47,895, but the top gross came from Target Field in Minneapolis, with $4.9 million in sales from just under 44,000 sold seats on July 12.

Taylor Swift (No. 5) took her Red Tour to Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. on July 26 and 27, selling out both shows and logging $9.4 million in sales. Total attendance was 110,712 at the two-night stand, her third appearance at the stadium as headliner. In June 2010, she played a single performance during her Fearless Tour, and on the Speak Now World Tour the following year she played to sellout crowds on two nights in June.

Jason Aldean is sixth in the rankings with totals reported from his second stadium event of the year, a two-show run at Boston's Fenway Park. The sold out performances on July 12 and 13 -- the first ever for a country headliner at the famed home ballpark of the Boston Red Sox -- grossed $5.9 million from 71,871 sold seats. Earlier in the year, Aldean played to a sellout crowd of 61,000 in his home state with an April 13 concert at Sanford Stadium on the University of Georgia campus in Athens.
