Staind lead vocalist Aaron Lewis will begin a small venue solo acoustic tour on March 1 at the Royal Oak Music Theatre in Detroit. The first leg of the tour will include close to 30 dates, tentatively wrapping April 6 at the Hampton Beach (N.H.) Casino.

Ken Fermaglich, agent for Staind and Lewis at the Agency Group, says initial pre-sales are going well. "It's a completely different look from anything we've ever done with Staind," he says. "That's the beauty of it."

Lewis has been playing solo acoustic dates in casinos for the past three years, Fermaglich tells Billboard.biz. "He's been building a solo acoustic buzz and fan base as well as crafting a show that's just him and acoustic guitar."

Fermgalich says a typical Lewis setlist is made up of about half Staind songs, half covers, "and a few unexpected songs, maybe some newer or solo stuff. The set list in and of itself is completely random, he doesn't make one up before each show."

Venues range in capacity from 800 to 2,000 and include a mixture of rock clubs and Broadway-style theaters. Most of the rock clubs will feature reserved seating on the floor.

Markets include Cleveland, Chicago, Minneapolis, Anaheim, Dallas, New Orleans, Shreveport, Chattanooga, Atlanta, Orlando, Boston, Philadelphia and others. Twenty-seven shows are on the books right now.

"Depending upon how well this does, there is discussion of taking a week off then staring back up again in mid-April and do another two or three weeks, if the demand is there," Fermaglich says. "It's really contingent upon the demand and how well the shows sell."

The timing of the tour relates to "no reason other than Staind is kind of on hiatus for the moment while they take a little break. So Aaron wanted to go do this in the 'off season'."
