As part of its ongoing strategy to increase its presence in the live entertainment space, Los Angeles-based Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) has tapped Eric Stevens as president of its new unit AEG Events & Media.

In his new role, Stevens will heavily focus on the new division's goal to create branded national tours ranging from family entertainment and sports tours to awards shows and corporate showcases.

With AEG's recent purchase of figure skating tour Champions on Ice, the company is looking to acquire existing tours and productions. In addition, AEG Events & Media will work to create new properties based on established brands, characters, sports and tournaments, among others.

Prior to AEG, Stevens has held executive roles at Feld Entertainment, Disney
and DreamWorks.

Along with AEG Events & Media, AEG is comprised of such divisions as AEG Live, AEG Facilities, AEG Marketing, and AEG Sales and Sponsorship. AEG Live has promoted tours by Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Cheetah Girls, Rod Stewart, American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, High School Musical, Bon Jovi, Usher, Paul McCartney, Prince and Kenny Chesney, among others.

In February, AEG Facilities named Bob Newman COO and Sims Hinds senior VP of business development, and Brian Kabatznick joined AEG Facilities/Europe as VP of business development.

"I'm told we have a reputation of being rather quiet," AEG CEO/president Tim Leiweke told Billboard.biz. "We have 33 arenas, stadiums, theaters and clubs that we own or operate now. So we're actually a fairly large player in the facility business, and this is an extension and addition to our management team we have in place."
