Madison Square Garden Entertainment (MSGE) confirms to Billboard.biz that it is in final negotiations to purchase the 3,600-seat Chicago Theatre. MSGE runs New York mainstay venues Madison Square Garden, the WaMu Theatre at Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, and the Beacon Theatre.

"Madison Square Garden has agreed in principle to purchase the Chicago Theatre, however, there remain several additional details that must be worked out before the purchase can be finalized," MSGE says in a statement.

"We look forward to completing the transaction as quickly as possible and will comment further at the appropriate time." The current owner of the Chicago Theatre is Theatre Dreams Chicago, LLC, which purchased the venue from the City of Chicago in 2003.

MSGE is the live entertainment arm of Cablevision Systems Corporation, which
owns the arena venues, RCMH, and the New York Rangers and Knicks.
