Rick Mueller will exit his post as president of of Live Nation California, Billboard.biz has learned.
"Rick informed me yesterday that he had made the decision to leave the company at the end of his employment agreement in late July, and as such we are working now to provide him an earlier release," Bob Roux, co-president of North American music for Live Nation, told Billboard.biz.
Sources say Mueller will move to rival promoter AEG Live, though an AEG Live executive contacted by Billboard.biz declined to comment.
Mueller, 38, was tapped to oversee all of Live Nation's California operations in 2008 after previously serving as president of Live Nation San Francisco. His move would be the second West Coast defection from Live Nation to AEG Live this year. In January, veteran promoter Brian Murphy, once chairman of Southern California music at Live Nation and the "senior consultant" at that company since 2008, left LN and moved to AEG Live as president of the promoter's West Coast regional office. Murphy and Mueller worked closely together at Live Nation and it is expect that they will again at AEG Live.
