For most high school graduates, the things generally top of mind during commencement ceremonies might be prom, college, and perhaps summer employment. But for teen pop superstar Justin Bieber, his graduation might seem almost tangential compared to, say, having the No. 1 album in the country in Believe (which just had the biggest selling debut week of any album in 2012), three songs in the Hot 100 singles chart, and newly announced UK dates for his "Believe" Tour.
The UK's Guardian newspaper today reported that Bieber was one of 192 students ("listed in the program, between Antoine berger de Nomazy and James Bohan") to graduate from St Michael Catholic Secondary School in Stratford this past Thursday (June 28). Though Bieber, now 18, left campus life at Stratford when he was 13 to study online, he is receivedh is diploma on time with his 2012 graduating class.
Meanwhile, today, Justin Bieber announced dates for his 2013 UK tour which will stop off in six cities starting on Feburary 19 in Manchester. The Believe tour is presented by AEG Live, with the final date at London's 02 Arena on March 4.
St. Michael's principal Tim Doherty, according to Jam! Showbiz, said of Bieber's graduation that, "We are very proud of Justin and all of the other 192 graduates of St. Michael school, however, we're not at liberty to discuss any personal plans or information about Justin or any other graduate."
St. Michael is known to local residents as "St. Mike's," is the only Catholic high school in Stratford and their athletic teams play under the Warriors banner. Earlier this year, the school's women volleyball team "dominated" the Palmerston Norwell Redmen 3-0 in the OFSAA AA quarter-final at St. Clair College in Windsor, according to the Stratford Beacon Herald. Also, the Warriors senior girls soccer team won the WOSSAA AA championship after beating Lord Dorchester 2-1 earlier this month. And in February the boy's baseketball team captured the WOSSAA AA gold medal defeating St. Thomas Central Elgin Titans 63-44 with a reported "gritty effort."
For Justin Bieber, however, his mind is likely more focused on "Believe"'s campaign which is cresting: The album stormed to the top of the Billboard 200 summit last week with the year's largest debut selling 374,000 copies. His three tracks currently on the Billboard 100 are: "Boyfriend," at No. 18 (adn which peaked at No. 2); "Beauty and a Beat" featuring Nick Minaj, which opened at No. 72; and "Right Here" featuring Drake, which debuted at No. 95. Tickets for Bieber's UK tour go on sale at 9am on Friday July 6 through www.aeglive.co.uk (dates below).
