Seattle-based indie Sub Pop records has launched a sub-label in Hardly Art. Sub Pop head Jonathan Poneman will oversee the imprint, and Sarah Moody has been named Hardly Art GM.

Moody joined the publicity team at Sub Pop in 2005, and will now shift over to work on Hardly Art full time. She says, "A lot of the reason for starting the label was because Jonathan had a desire to work on smaller level, and a smaller budget, and be a little more spontaneous." Poneman was traveling and unavailable for comment.

The first release on Hardly Art will be Seattle duo Arthur & Yu, whose album "In Camera" will be released on June 19, 2007. Hardly Art/Sub Pop is distributed by the Warner Music Group's Alternative Distribution Alliance.
