Gibson Guitars in Nashville has acquired Garrison Guitars in St. John's, Newfoundland.

The acquisition is expected to further Gibson's expansion in the acoustic guitar market offering a new series of Gibson branded acoustic guitars. The company plans on shipping the new Garrison acoustic guitar line by August.

The acquisition deepens Gibson's ties to the Canadian market. In Nov. 2006, Gibson opened a 7,000 square foot artist showroom in downtown Toronto that has recently showcased such Canadian acts as The Trews, Liam Titcomb, and Simon Wilcox.

Garrison Guitars was founded in 1999 by Chris Griffith. Garrison Guitars opened a 20,000 square foot manufacturing company in St. John's in early 2001.

Founded in 1894 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and headquartered in Nashville since 1984, Gibson Guitar's family of brands also includes Epiphone, Dobro, Maestro, Kramer, Steinberger, Echoplex, Baldwin, and Wurlitzer.
