-- Rick Williams, a veteran distribution executive, has joined the Phoenix-based indie distributor 101 Distribution as GM.

"Rick is an industry expert who possesses the knowledge and expertise in building, growing and managing a multi-million dollar distribution network driven by a label focus,” says 101 executive director Damon Evans. Williams previously was GM of Caroline Distribution.

101 Distribution manages the digital, mobile, retail and mail order sales for more than 2,000 touring artists and record labels worldwide.

-- theBizmo, which provides widgets that help artists sell their content directly to fans and consumers, is setting up shop in the U.S., and has appointed music industry veteran David Hazan as head of U.S. operations and chief marketing officer.

The firm, based in London, launched its business initially in Europe and recently signed a deal to provide a microstore solution to the French social network Skyrock and the many artists with pages on the site.

According to the company press release announcing the U.S. launch, theBizmo enables the sales of all digital music products in addition to MP3s, including ringtones, hi-res images/photos, screensavers, videos, merchandise-on-demand, concert tickets, and e-books/PDFs of sheet music and lyrics.

It also allows for simultaneous dual downloads to both computer and mobile, as well as a simplified, single point of administration for multiple points of sale.

As part of its US launch, theBizmo is sponsoring a number of music conferences, including the New Music Seminar in New York on July 21, Break’n Through at New York’s Highline Ballroom on July 30, and the Dewey Beach Music Conference on October 1-3.

Hazan has held senior positions at the Orchard, MTV Networks, Warner Music Group and Wind-up Entertainment.
