Target has partnered with iTunes to create its own section on the music store’s Web site that will give customers exclusive material for album releases. The retailer’s area can be accessed through the iTunes music store and Target.com.

The first album to be featured on the Target page is Pearl Jam’s forthcoming set, “Backspacer,” due for release on Sept. 20. Starting today (Aug. 25), customers who pre-order “Backspacer,” will instantly receive a download of the set’s first single, “The Fixer.” Pearl Jam will also premiere its music video for the song as a free download on iTunes.

On Sept. 20, “Backspacer” will be available for purchase in the United States exclusively through Target, target.com, iTunes, Pearl Jam's Ten Club Web site and independent retailers.
