Susan Boyle’s blockbuster debut album “I Dreamed A Dream” (Syco/Sony Music) has made chart history Down Under.

The current No. 1 album last week notched the biggest individual chart sales period since national labels body ARIA began collating charts using electronically scanned sales data back in 1997.

Christmas shoppers last week rung up more than 164,000 purchases of “Dream,” a double-platinum sales burst which outpaced the over-the-counter sales feat of “Just As I Am” (Sony Music), the 2003 chart debut of inaugural “Australian Idol” winner Guy Sebastian.

Boyle also becomes the first artist to exceed 100,000 scanned sales on two successive weeks. Platinum certification in Australia is 70,000 units.

“I Dreamed A Dream” is on target to end the year as the biggest seller in Australia. The set has shifted more than 400,000 units Down Under and is certified eight-times platinum since it bowed at No. 1 on the national sales chart on Nov. 30.

The album is also in pole-position to land the No. 1 slot when ARIA this Sunday publishes its final weekly sales charts for the decade. The post-Christmas sales glow should stay lit thanks to a one-hour TV special, “I Dreamed A Dream: The Susan Boyle Story” which aired tonight (Dec. 30) on Australian pay-TV channel, UKTV.
