The most recent installment of This Week in Music finds Topspin's Ian Rogers speaking to Mike Davis, president of Alliance Entertainment, one of the largest physical distributors in the country.
The duo discussed the rise in vinyl records, with Alliance's warehouse containing 15,000 unique titles, bringing in "20-something" million dollars, according to Davis. The Alliance warehouse itself is a 450,000 square foot building "filled with music, media, and apparel."
Davis also briefly outlined Alliance's direction as distribution shifts to digital retail and streaming service models, saying that Alliance will not be adding digital arms or expanding to digital marketing any time soon. "We have a marketing arm that markets to retail, but we're not adding direct to consumer marketing, any of the stuff traditional distribution companies do," he said. "We're looking to be a cost-effective, pick-pack-ship, deliver to retail, or deliver direct-to-fan, solution."
