Christian artist TobyMac is on course for his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, as industry sources are now projecting his "Eye On It" will debut atop the list next week with 60,000 copies sold.
The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Sept. 5.
The last time a Christian album topped the Billboard 200 was in September 1997 when LeAnn Rimes' "You Light Up My Life - Inspirational Songs" spent three weeks atop the list. A number of Christian sets have come close to hitting No. 1 in recent times, including Casting Crowns' 2011 set "Come to the Well" (No. 2) and David Crowder Band's 2012 effort "Give Us Rest" (No. 2).
Two days ago it seemed like there was going to be a race for No. 1 between TobyMac and Slaughterhouse on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Presently, the latter hip-hop supergroup is heading for a No. 2 bow with its "Welcome to Our House." Sources say it might sell around 55,000 copies.
Elsewhere in on next week's Billboard 200, Alanis Morissette is on track to claim her sixth top 10. Her new "Havoc and Bright Lights" set may sell around 30,000 to 40,000 copies by week's end on Sept. 2, according to industry sources.
"Havoc" is Morissette's first effort since departing Maverick/Warner Bros. Records after having spent her entire U.S. career there. The new was released through Collective Sounds via RED Distribution.
On Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart (below), Slaughterhouse is No. 1 while TobyMac is No. 2. The ranking is deceiving because the Building Chart does not include sales from Christian bookstores and retailers, which make up a significant amount of TobyMac's sales. However, all of those sales will be included on the Billboard 200's ranking's next Wednesday.
Back on the Building Chart, Morissette is No. 4, behind Trey Songz's "Chapter V." The "Now 43" compilation is No. 5, 2 Chainz's "Based On a T.R.U. Story" is No. 6 and fun.'s "Some Nights" is No. 7. Adele's "21" is No. 8, Maroon 5's "Overexposed" sits at No. 9 and Justin Bieber's "Believe" ranks at No. 10.

|The Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales.|
