What a difference a year makes. In 2013, young dance stud Martin Garrix was at Ultra in a totally different capacity. “I was actually in the crowd last year,” he told Billboard’s Kerri Mason just an hour removed from performing at the Miami dance fest. “I was dreaming and hoping I could be here one day.”
Garrix, flanked by his manager Scooter Braun and Spinnin’ Records founder Eelko van Kooten, talked about making it from playing guitar in his bedroom to being one of EDM’s most promising rookies.
“There were elements of it that come from the hip-hop world,” Braun recalls of hearing a demo of Martin’s smash “Animals” in the clip—immediately thinking it would be the hit it eventually became.
“I’ve got so many new tracks coming up,” teases. “Some really exciting collaborations.” Last week, Garrix revealed that one of those is with singer Ed Sheeran. Watch the clip and be sure to check back with CODE for more Ultra news and interviews.
