Geoff Harris, a financial executive previously at the head of Universal Music's UK label division, has been named Capitol Music Group's new CFO. Harris will be relocating from London to Los Angeles for the position and will report to CMG CEO/chairman Steve Barnett and UMG's EVP and CFO Boyd Muir.
“Geoff is that rare financial professional who is at ease within the creative environment, and who throughout his tenure at our UK company has demonstrated time and time again that he can walk that fine line between creativity and commercialism," said Boyd Muir in a statement.
“Having been with Universal Music for many years," Harris said, "the opportunity to join Steve and his team in shaping CMG’s future is one that excites me, both professionally and personally. I thank Steve and Boyd for welcoming me to the U.S. and I’m thrilled to get started.”
The appointment is the first in a while for Capitol, after a flurry of appointments early last year following Steve Barnett's being named chairman/CEO in the wake of Universal's EMI acquisition. Capitol's EVP, Michele Jubilerer, was named No. 10 on Billboard's Women In Music list in December, while Steve Barnett placed No. 32 on our recent Power 100.
The label has had two big signings recently as well; Neil Diamond left his longtime home of Columbia for Capitol last month, and Beck decamped Intercope subsidiary DGC for Capitol last October, ahead of his new record "Morning Phase."
