BMG Relocates Writer Services Hub to L.A., Thomas Scherer Promoted

BMG is shifting its worldwide Writer Services hub from Berlin to Los Angeles under newly-promoted executive Thomas Scherer.

BMG Writer Services embraces BMG’s international songplugging operation which works with the company’s roster of songwriters including Steve Mac, Will.i.am, Juicy J, Sterling Fox, Sacha Skarbek, Al Shux and busbee. 

As part of the move, Scherer rises from senior VP international repertoire co-ordination to executive VP Writer Services.

He already oversees BMG Writer Services teams across the company’s 10 international offices; he will continue to oversee BMG’s Writer Services teams in the Europe and the U.S., providing central co-ordination to “deliver U.S opportunities for European writers and opportunities in Europe for U.S. writers,” according to a BMG statement. He will also continue to contribute to BMG acquisitions, signings and the striking of joint venture deals.

A Bertelsmann stalwart with more than 20 years within the group, Scherer joined BMG Rights Management at its launch in 2008 and is considered a key member of BMG’s core executive team.

Scherer has already relocated to L.A., and continues to report to BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch. Scherer’s move to L.A. will “further strengthen our ability to create opportunities for our writers in the center of the worldwide entertainment industry,” comments Masuch in a statement. 

Recent BMG chart successes include Miley Cyrus 'Wrecking Ball' (co-written by Sacha Skarbek), Eminem feat. Rihanna 'The Monster' (co-written by Jon Bellion and Bebe Rexha); Will.i.am’s ‘Scream & Shout’ ft. Britney Spears, and One Direction  album “Midnight Memories,” which features nine songs by John Ryan. BMG has forthcoming cuts from the likes of Beyonce, Shakira, Anastacia, Jason Derulo, Kylie Minogue and Rihanna.
