Dimensional Associates, a division of JDS Capital Management, has sold its music publishing unit, Billboard.biz has learned.

Steve McMellon, backed by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, will run the publisher. McMellon was the head of business affairs for U.K.-based Kingstreet Media.

Sources say that most personnel are expected to continue working for Dimensional Music Publishing, currently based in New York with offices in Los Angeles and Nashville. Dimensional formed the publisher in 2004 after acquiring the DreamWorks Music Publishing catalog.

Dimensional's acquisition of the DreamWorks catalog marked the first time a private equity fund investing in technology-based services -- eMusic, The Orchard and Digital Club Network -- ventured into music publishing.

Dimensional declined to comment.

Dimensional Associates owns eMusic and the Orchard.
