Spirit Music Group has entered into a strategic partnership with investment firm Babcock & Brown, which acquired a significant equity stake in the publisher as part of the deal. Under the agreement, Spirit will have access to funds for expansion and catalog acquisition.

The first acquisitions under the partnership are the catalog of writer/producer Rick Nowels and the complete works of Wang Chung.

The Nowels catalog has more than 300 songs, including his interests in: Santana and Michelle Branch's "The Game of Love"; Dido's "White Flag”; Stevie Nicks' "I Can't Wait" and "Rooms on Fire"; Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven is a Place on Earth" and "Circle in the Sand"; Celine Dion's “Falling Into You”; Anita Baker's “Body and Soul”; and Madonna's "The Power of Goodbye."

The catalog of Wang Chung, formed by London duo Jack Hues and Nick Feldman, include the '80s hits “Dance Hall Days” and “Don’t Let Go.”

“We had been looking for the right partner in order to grow our operation," says Spirit CEO Mark Fried. "We’re extremely pleased to have found investors who share our global vision and support Spirit’s unique business model and philosophy.”
