The new president of the Lausanne, Switzerland-based International Confederation of Music Publishers (ICMP/CIEM) is Kjell-Ake Hamren, chairman of Swedish publishers' association SMFF.

Hamren replaces composer Jean-Manuel de Scarano, who is standing down from the body after 15 year's service. He also replaces de Scarano as chairman of the ICMP/CIEM Serious Music Publishers Bureau and becomes a member of the four-man ICMP/CIEM Executive Bureau. The latter implements policy put forward by the body's 24-strong main board, comprising members of its Serious Music, Pop Music and International bureaux.

De Scarano, who was one of the four founders of ICMP/CIEM in 1992, has been president for the past four years. The body's chairman Frans de Wit said in a statement that Hamren's election was indicative of music publishing diversity and the global reach of the umbrella organisation.

The election, announced today (June 20), took place at the organisation's AGM in Stockholm, June 15.
