ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) will produce a new series of events to designed to encourage and recognize women in the music creative community.

The series, "Women Behind The Music," will feature showcases and educational panels in Los Angeles, New York and will kick-off in Atlanta on Aug. 25 with a showcase at the 595 North Lounge. The event, free to the public via rsvp to [email protected], will feature Grammy award-winning songwriter Kandi Burress, who has written songs for several major artists, including Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys and TLC. Also on the bill is Alja Jackson aka Jesse James, Mika Means, Myxx, and Brittany Street.

Other events in the "Women Behind the Music" series include a panel in New York on September 2, a showcase in Los Angeles on September 8th, and a special interview in New York on September 9.
