EMI Music Publishing has promoted Johnny Tennander to VP of A&R (Europe) and head of A&R (Scandinavia).

In the newly created role, Stockholm-based Tennander will be charged with discovering and signing song-writing talent across the continent, supporting EMI Music Publishing teams in individual territories.

The creation of the new position follows Guy Moot's appointment earlier this year as head of European creative, driving A&R strategy across the U.K. and Europe. Tennander, currently A&R director for Scandinavia, will report jointly to Moot and EMI Music Publishing Scandinavia's managing director Stefan Gullberg in his new position.

Tennander joined the publisher as A&R manager in 2002 and signed songwriters including Peter Bjorn & John, Lykke Li, Anna Ternheim, Salem Al Fakir, Dead By April and Maria Mena.

"There is such strength in song-writing in Europe at the moment, and we want to make sure that we are finding the right artists and connecting them with a global audience," said Guy Moot in a statement. "We have to be even smarter in the way we discover and develop song-writing talent, and the appointment of Johnny brings important additional resources to support the great work that our local teams are doing. Johnny's got a great track record in finding and nurturing songwriters with broad geographic appeal, and this new role is well-deserved recognition of his success at EMI Music Publishing to date."
