French authors, composers and publishers society Sacem has signed a global deal with Saudi Arabian group Rotana Audio Visual.
Sacem will handle management of the publisher's entire catalog for the world except for Turkey for Rotana, which becomes a Sacem member. With nearly 7,000 works for 120 artists, Rotana Audio Visual is considered as one of the largest music publishers in the Arab world.
Rotana started off as a record company in 1987 and is now a media group in the Arabic region with seven TV channels, a regional radio network and a coffee chain. The company also produces and distributes Arabic music and film throughout the world.
"This new cooperation with the Group demonstrates our will to protect musical creation in this region," said Thierry Desurmont, VP of the Sacem management board, in a statement. He added that Sacem has 5,000 members from the Arab world, out of a total membership of 128,000.
