EMI Music Publishing has signed an exclusive global co-publishing deal with songwriter and vocalist Jared Cotte, who co-wrote “Down,” which hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100 this week.

The song by Jay Sean (featuring Lil Wayne) knocked the Black Eyed Peas from the summit of the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in 26 weeks.

The agreement will see EMI Music Publishing represent Cotter’s songs on a long-term basis, working with music clients across all forms of media to secure commercial opportunities across the world. EMI Music Publishing senior creative director Leotis Clyburn will handle his A&R, and work closely with EMI president of West coast creative Big Jon Platt.

As well as writing for Jay Sean, Cotter will have a song called “It Ain’t Christmas” featured on R&B vocalist Joe’s forthcoming festive album. In addition to his writing and performing, the former “American Idol” finalist is an on-air host with Fuse TV, and is in talks to host a new game show on cable TV, according to the press release announcing the deal.
