BMG Rights Management and Warner Music Group are among the potential bidders for the Chrysalis Group, according to the New York Post.

Chrysalis, which has a 100,000-strong catalog in its publishing division, confirmed this week that is having early stage discussions with interested parties regarding merger opportunities.

The company was up for sale in 2008 but the auction process was called off as a result of the financial crisis.

BMG Rights Management was always going to be a likely bidder for Chrysalis when it came on the market again. The Berlin-based company has been expanding rapidly and acquiring catalogs and publishers. This year the company - a joint venture with media giant BMG and investment group KKR - has acquired Cross Town Songs, Cherry Lane and U.K. music publisher Stage Three Music.
