BuzzMedia has continued its acquisition spree, purchasing leading punk websites Under The Gun Review, Alter The Press!, PropertyOfZack, and as part of a new central hub for punk music news, which the company will call AbsoluteVoices. The four acquired properties will join with existing BuzzMedia property AbsolutePunk, which will serve as the main site in the new collective.

BuzzMedia Acquires Spin | Buzzmedia Acquires XLR8R

BuzzMedia, which also owns Stereogum, PureVolume, RCRD LBL, Brooklyn Vegan, Idolator, and more, purchased XLR8R in May, then followed that up with the major acquisition of SPIN Media July 10. The acquisition of SPIN led to layoffs at the 27-year-old magazine, as well as the cancellation of its November/December issue and promises to double the size of SPIN's editorial team.

In acquiring four popular punk sites and gathering them all under one umbrella, BuzzMedia -- the fourth largest digital publisher of original music content in the United States behind MTV, Yahoo! Music, and AOL Music, according to comScore -- is attempting to consolidate the punk music community into one place.

"AbsoluteVoices puts a spotlight on some of the most unique and up-and-coming voices in punk rock reporting and brings them to, which over the years has become the largest online gathering place for the punk rock fan community," said Bill Jensen, BUZZMEDIA vice president and general manager of music, in a statement. "Thirty years later, American youth still passionately identify with the intensity and forward-thinking music and style of punk."

While each of the five sites operate in similar genres, AbsolutePunk founder Jason Tate said in a statement he hoped the quintet could each bring a different and unique perspective to the table.

"AbsolutePunk is the largest punk music destination on the Web, with an active community," he said. "These sites will now lend their distinct and authoritative voices to the conversation."
