John Nicholas left his position of vice president/sales at Universal Music Distribution following a 25-year stint to join SMH Records as general manager. During his career, he has developed and implemented successful sales and marketing plans for iconic catalogs such as The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones and Bob Seger, among others. John has also launched new artists’ campaigns for superstar acts such as Katy Perry and Coldplay.
Tom Osborn was appointed to vp/marketing for Kobalt Label Services, supporting KLS worldwide in its marketing activities -- another step in their ongoing investment in the expansion and development of new client services including the distribution and marketing of recorded music. Osborn previously served in marketing at Epitaph/Anti-Records, where he worked with The Black Keys, Tom Waits, Wilco, The Flaming Lips, Mastodon, Paul Simon, and Dr. Dog.
Eddie Dalva was named executive vice president of content and programming enterprises, Viacom Entertainment and Music Groups. Dalva will be responsible for the pursuit of domestic and international content partnerships and programming enterprises, as well as strategic co-ventures and digital opportunities. He will also seek creative financing of reality, scripted and sports programming, building upon his wide-ranging experience and global relationships. In his previous role as svp/content, Viacom Entertainment and Music Groups, Dalva helped co-finance a vast array of reality and scripting programming across Viacom Media Networks.
Long-term promotion executive Bruce Shindler announced his retirement from the music business after a 41-year tenure, to take effect at the end of 2014. Shindler’s career in the music business includes time at Associated Distributors in Phoenix where he received his start in 1972, Buddah Records in New York City, Elektra/Asylum Records, Infinity Records, MTM Records, RCA Records, seven years with his own independent company Shindler-Turner Promotions, DreamWorks Records and the past 10 years with UMG Nashville. With Shindler’s departure, the Mercury Nashville team announced Jack Christopher will join as director of southeast promotion for Mercury Records. Christopher brings with him 30 years of experience in the country music industry including 10 years in broadcasting at WDSY/Pittsburgh, and his most recently stint as vp/promotion for RPM Entertainment.

Downtown Music Publishing appointed senior ASCAP executive Andrew Sparkler as vp, business affairs & operations. Sparkler will supervise DMP’s direct relationships with both domestic and international collection societies, manage integration between DMP’s business affairs, administration and technology departments and develop new business opportunities for the company’s client roster. Sparkler previously served as vp of business & membership affairs for ASCAP.

iHeartMedia announced Hector Marcano as vp of Hispanic operations east, as well as a position as GM of WRUM FM in Orlando. Marcano will work with iHeartMedia's Hispanic radio stations, with a special focus in the Miami, Chicago, Orlando and Atlanta markets. He will spearhead the sales efforts with top prospects and develop custom strategies and campaigns that leverage the unique multi-platform reach and power of iHeartMedia.

Def Jam Recordings promoted Bill Evans to vp, urban promotion, broadening their scope of urban promotion activities. Evans will help manage and support Def Jam’s national field staff, working closely with evp, urban promotion, Rodney Shealey to orchestrate the successful roll-out of new record releases to all Urban radio formats, including Mainstream and Urban AC. Evans will also oversee the development and execution of all national radio and advertising campaigns.
