At last week’s Recording Academy Honors New York Chapter event, between foot-stomping performances by Trey Songz and Ne-Yo, Melissa Etheridge with Joan Osbourne and Sugarland’s Kristian Bush and Valerie Simpson of Ashford & Simpson along with gracious acceptance speeches that repeatedly invoked the theme of “love and passion” for music, producer and engineer Frank Filipetti delivered a heartfelt and moving tribute to his longtime mentor, friend and associate -- the late, great record producer Phil Ramone.

Phil Ramone's Top 50 Billboard Albums: From '52nd Street' to 'Album 1700'

Ramone, who died  at the age of 79 on March 30 and who Filipetti described as the “greatest producer of any time,” helmed classic albums by Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Paul Simon, Billy Joel and many others over a career that stretched back to the early 1960s. Here Filipetti speaks fondly of the young talent Ramone nurtured -- which he in part attributes to Ramone’s ability to remain young-at-heart. Below is the video of Filipetti's spech in his own words.
