eOne Join’s Forces with Peter Gabriel’s Real World

First up under the new agreements are forthcoming albums from world music artists including Dub Colossus and Samuel Yirga.
Kemado, Cult and Kanine to Essential Music & Marketing

The growing independent distributor will now handle the releases of the Kemado Label Group (Kemado Records, Mexican Summer and Software), Cult Records (from Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas) and Kanine Records, among others. Essential, which was founded in 2003, hopes the new signings will help it build on its successes of last year, when 14 of the distributor's releases landed on the UK Top 40.
Record Store Day Wins the Independent Spirit Award
Record Store Day will be honored with this year’s Independent Spirit Award, NARM has announced. The music business association selected the pro-brick-and-mortar organization as the recipient of the prestigious award for its successful efforts to “increase awareness and sales for important but often overlooked physical institutions.” Record Store Day was founded in 2007 and is most famous for its eponymous holiday, which has become synonymous with limited edition prints and other rare goodies for diehard music fans. Past Independent Spirit Award winners include Epitaph Records founder Brett Gurewitz and Tom Silverman of Tommy Boy Entertainment.
