Alex Sancaya has been promoted to managing director of Sony Music Entertainment, Indonesia.
In his new role, Sancaya will be responsible for the music major’s operations in Indonesia and he will continue to be based in Jakarta, reporting to Sydney-based Denis Handlin, Sony Music’s chairman and CEO Australia and New Zealand and president, Asia.
Sancaya joined Sony Music Indonesia in July 2013 as director, finance and administration and in October 2013 was named acting managing director.
“During this time he has led and directed Sony Music Indonesia’s business operations with distinction and enthusiasm which has seen the company exceed its business plan targets and he has established excellent relations with our local artists and business partners,” notes Handlin in a statement.
Indonesia is an "important market for Sony Music with a vibrant local artist community,” Handlin adds.
Earlier in his career, Sancaya held senior management positions in FMCG companies including L’Oreal and Danone.
Sancaya’s promotion follows the appointment of Julius Ng to managing director of Sony Music Entertainment, Malaysia and Singapore in late 2013. Ng, who also reports to Handlin, has a wealth of experience in the Singapore market, having worked in the music industry since 1986. Prior to joining Sony Music, he was COO and director for Dream Music in Malaysia, where he spearheaded various 360-degree marketing campaigns across multiple platforms.
