Emeryville, Ca.-based Catalyst Mobile and Tokyo-based Warner Music Japan on Feb. 5 launched the Warner Music Group Rhino Mobile service in Japan.

The music portal is available via leading Japanese telecom operator NTT DoCoMo, which has some 40 million subscribers.

Rhino Mobile is subscription-based, with prices starting at ¥315 ($2.61) per month.

The service features a variety of content from WMG's Rhino catalog and provides advanced search, recommendation, preview and downloading of individual tracks. Other features also include "This Day in Rock History" trivia and "Songs You Know Ring Tone Corner."

"Warner is a global leader in digital music distribution and particular in mobile," said WMG strategic marketing GM Shun Mori in a statement.

"Catalyst Mobile truly is igniting rich mobile experiences, and helping us to further our lead."

The Japanese offering is a cornerstone to the Warner Music's international rollout of the Rhino brand, which was announced Jan. 31.
