ITN On, the digital-distribution unit of ITN, one of the U.K.’s oldest news-gathering organizations, is to launch a music division.

ITN On currently packages news, documentaries, entertainment and music-video content for mobile and broadband distribution for TV-production clients, including TV networks Channel 4, Granada Media and audio-visual news-gathering companies like ITN itself and Reuters.

With the new division, ITN On now plans to approach music labels seeking to distribute music video and other music-related content via the Internet and mobile networks. It has appointed Ross Landau to be ITN On’s new head of music.

Laudau was previously head of music sales at ITN Source, which repackages music-related videos based on recorded concerts, interviews and news-footage that had been filmed by its TV-production clients and re-edits them to create new programs that are aired by other broadcasters or sold on DVD.

Previous works include a series of documentaries on traditional British music, such as folk and jazz, for music club Music Britannia. The series has been broadcast on the U.K.’s BBC Four network. ITN Source also repackaged a combination of footage from its archive to create the DVD documentary “The Beatles – From Liverpool to San Francisco” for Eagle Rock Entertainment in 2005.

“Launching a music division seems logical seeing as we have a great production unit and music works so well on the new platforms,” said Nicholas Wheeler, ITN On’s managing director.
