Australian rocker Billy Thorpe, who died of a heart attack in February aged 60, was posthumously awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) medal in the Queen's Birthday Honours list today.

Aside from his 40-year career as a songwriter and performer, Thorpe was recognized for his efforts in helping his colleagues. These included devising projects to raise money for the music industry benevolent fund Support Act Ltd and co-promoting the 2002 nostalgia tour "It's A Long Way To The Top" which put many performers from the '60s and '70s back in the spotlight.
