NRJ Mobile, the MVNO subsidiary of French media conglomerate NRJ Group, officially launches a music download service for 3G mobile phone users in France tomorrow (June 15).

The "Music Illimitee" service offers an unlimited number of downloads from a 500,000-track catalog supplied the 4 major companies and a dozen independents, according to NRJ Mobile.

Tracks downloaded through the subscription model cannot be transferred to PCs. Subscription to the service, powered by Paris-based Musiwave, is €15 ($20) per month. The company declines to outline the financial terms agreed with rights holders.

Music Illimitee received a "soft" launch in April but NRJ will only be advertised from tomorrow. The launch coincides with release of a new NRJ Mobile-branded 3G phone that comes pre-loaded with eight tracks of EMI repertoire.

NRJ Mobile was launched in November 2005 and operates through the SFR network. To date, the service claims 425,000 clients; its stated target at launch was to have one million clients by the end of 2008.
