French daily financial newspaper Les Echos reports that Google is due to launch a French version of YouTube in the next few days.

Google France declined to comment on the report, which suggested the French service would be a test for the launch of localized YouTube versions throughout Europe.

In France, Paris-based Dailymotion is the leading video-sharing service, attracting 6.9 million unique visitors in May 2007, according to Internet information provider ComScore.

According to Les Echos, Google CEO Eric Schmidt will officially announce the launch of YouTube's French version in Paris on June 19.
