Leading Chinese Internet portal Baidu has named former Sony Corp. president/CEO Nobuyuki Idei to its board of directors, the Beijng-based company said June 27. The appointment took effect June 14.
"We are very pleased to welcome Mr. Idei to Baidu's Board of Directors. His wealth of leadership experience coupled with his expertise in corporate governance will bring significant value to Baidu," said Baidu chairman/CEO Robin Li in a statement. "We are confident that he will make a significant contribution towards Baidu's efforts to extend our leadership in Chinese-language Internet search and to develop our search platform in Japan."
Idei resigned as Sony's chief corporate adviser on June 21 and is now CEO of Tokyo-based management consulting firm Quantum Leaps Corp.
