Simon Gunning has joined EMI Music U.K. and Ireland as its new senior VP digital, starting July 23.

Gunning, who was most recently director of entertainment at Yahoo! Europe, will report to the U.K. company's chairman/CEO Tony Wadsworth and Barney Wragg, EMI's global head of digital.

Gunning's newly-created position finalizes the team EMI U.K. has been creating to boost its digital-sales business.

"Simon joins EMI having built a great track record across all areas of the music industry, and I'm delighted that he will be able to bring his experience to lead the next phase in the evolution of our digital strategy," comments Wadsworth in a statement.

Gunning will collaborate with the company's commercial digital sales team, as well as its business-development division.

Additionally, he will work with Josh Saunders, EMI U.K.'s head of digital projects, plus the digital chiefs at EMI's individual labels, including Dan Duncombe, head of digital Parlophone, and Eric Winbolt, head of digital EMI Records.
