EMI Music Japan has opened a "brand channel" on the Japanese version of YouTube -- the first local record company to do so.

"By launching this brand channel, we can provide information on artists, including their new tunes," the Tokyo-based label said in a statement. "At the same time, users can send responses and share information, because YouTube is a major consumer-generated medium."

Each artist's page features news about the act, video clips of singles and live performances and a link to the artist's official Japanese official Web site. Viewers can send content to friends and use it for their own Web sites and blogs.

The channel initially features only international EMI artists, including the Spice Girls, Daft Punk and Kylie Minogue.
