Universal Music Germany is taking a majority stake in Berlin-based merchandising enterprise Deutschrock Merchandise. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Deutschrock, which was established 10 years ago, will continue to operate independently from Universal Music, and will not confine itself to the major's artist roster, comments Frank Briegmann, president and CEO of Universal Music Germany.

The two companies have partnered for the past two years. "The merchandising rights of our artists, such as Tokio Hotel, have been exploited to the optimum degree in our link-up with Deutschrock," notes Briegmann.

Erik Schunder, head of Deutschrock Merchandise, says the deal lays "an important foundation for a service that will enable all our artists to exploit their merchandise rights even more fully and give us even more targeted positioning of our products in the market."
