Mauro Montanaro has been appointed chief executive of Jamba, the mobile content division of NewsCorp.

With effect from Feb. 4, Montanaro succeeds COO Lee Fenton, who has served as interim CEO since Lucy Hood resigned last October.

Berlin-based Montanaro joins the firm from cell phone giant Nokia, where he most recently headed handset sales and channel development for the South East Asia Pacific region.

"I am thrilled to be joining Jamba at a point in its evolution where we have a real opportunity to influence the future of mobile entertainment," Montanaro said in a statement. "The global market for wireless entertainment is exploding and we have the unique ability to produce, market and distribute mobile content and services globally."

NewsCorp holds the majority stake in Jamba, which it co-owns with Verisign, a firm which manages domain name registries for Web sites.
