Coldplay will give fans the chance to download for free the lead single from new album "Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends".

For a week from tomorrow (April 29), the track "Violet Hill" will be available from the British alternative rock band's Web site to download.

The track, which will be serviced to radio from tomorrow, will get a conventional paid-for digital release on May 6.

Meanwhile, the U.K. release date of the group's fourth studio album has been moved up four days to June 12 to bring it into line with global release dates, according to EMI.

In support of the album, Coldplay will also play free shows at London's Brixton Academy on June 16 and Madison Square Garden in N.Y. on June 23. A competition for tickets will be announced on the band's Web site.
