Australian entertainment travel brand Stage and Screen has formally launched operations in India, after opening an office in Los Angeles last October.

The new affiliate will provide travel and logistics management to India's film and television, sports, performing arts, music, fashion and media sectors.

Gregory Lording, its L.A.-based GM of international, says that the globalization of the country's Bollywood film industry has helped drive a demand for its services.

"India has become one of the strongest emerging markets for entertainment travel services," he says. "The country has also experienced significant foreign direct investment in its media, entertainment and sporting industries. We believe that it is the right time for Stage and Screen to enter India as the sporting sector is set to boom with major events in the pipeline."

The Indian entertainment market generates more than $11 billion annually, according to the New Delhi-based Federation of the Indian Chambers of Commerce Industry (FICCI). The Indian film industry's annual volume is double that of Hollywood's, the FICCI says; it made 1,000 movies in the 2005 calendar year to Hollywood's 563.

Mohit Khanna, an executive of Stage and Screen's parent company Flight Centre's corporate wing FCm Travel Solutions, serves as manager of Stage and Screen Travel Services India. The company will operate in Mumbai and Delhi. FCm Travel has 900 clients in 20 Indian cities, its revenue figure in the fiscal year 2006-7 was 10 billion rupees Indian, according to the company.

Stage and Screen will open its second North American office on Aug. 1, in Toronto.
