Organizers of the MIDEM trade fair are introducing a new pricing policy, which should help invigorate attendance after consecutive years of declines.

The first 150 visitors to sign up for MIDEM 2009 will pay at a special rate of €495 ($767). Meanwhile, the €575 ($891) "early bird" tariff applied to the 2008 edition has been maintained until Sept. 15; a combined MIDEM and MidemNet "early bird" rate of €1,040 ($1,612) will apply.

"We are committed to supporting music companies in these challenging economic times," comments MIDEM director Dominique Leguern. "MIDEM 2009 offers a new, adapted pricing policy and reinforces its role as a platform where the international music community can exchange ideas, do business and catch the trends that keep business moving forward."

Reed Midem, organizers of the convention, have felt the sting of the recorded music industry's downturn. The main 2008 event counted 9,100 participants, compared with the 9,452 delegates reported in 2007. The 2006 attendance figure was 9,798. The numbers for the MidemNet digital and technology, however, are up with 1,400 participants registered this year, compared with 1,322 in 2007.

The 43rd edition of MIDEM will be held from January 18 to 21, 2009, while MidemNet will run Jan. 17-18.
