The family of an Australian Idol contestant who fell to his death on the weekend are denying the incident was a suicide. Levi Kereama died in Brisbane on Saturday night just hours after performing at the Parklife Festival, in the city's Botanical Gardens.

The 27-year-old from Logan, south of Brisbane, fell from the balcony of a high-rise apartment. Police arrived on the scene at about 10.30pm.

Kereama competed in the first season of Australian Idol, back in 2003, in a class which included Guy Sebastian and Shannon Noll, both of whom have gone on to become breakthrough stars in Australia.

The singer was eliminated in week four of the reality TV series, but continued to ply his trade with R&B band the Bridge (originally Lethbridge), which he formed with his brothers.

According to reports, the singer had been suffering with depression. A blog posted today on the group's Web site, however, dismisses claims he had taken his own life.

"Amid false reports and exaggerated stories, on behalf of the Kereama family, we would like to set the record straight," the blog reads. "Our beloved former Australian Idol contestant Levi Kereama did not leap to has his death, as reported. Investigations have revealed the tragic loss of Levi was an accident," it continues, without disclosing details on the investigations.

"Furthermore we would clearly like to clarify, Levi was not suffering depression," it adds. Queensland Police are understood to be treating the death as non-suspicious.
