X-Cell Records, a joint venture co-launched at the beginning of 2007 by Universal Music Germany in Berlin and producer George Glueck, is to be integrated into Universal Music.

"Glueck will continue to be in charge of all of X-Cell's creative business in his capacity as label head," said Frank Briegmann, President & CEO of Universal Music Germany, in a statement.

"In the 25 years in which he has been involved in the industry, he has written German music history as a publisher, A&R specialist, producer and manager of artists such as Die Prinzen, H-Blockx, Sarah Connor, Texas Lightning and Ich + Ich." Both parties declined to comment on the purchase price.

Dirk Schömbs is to remain promotion director but will additionally assume the position of head of radio promotion at the Universal Domestic Division effective Jan. 1, 2009. Accordingly, marketing and the corresponding coordination function will be handled directly by Universal Domestic Marketing in consultation with George Glueck in the future.

General manager Steffen Müller will be leaving X-Cell Records and going into business on his own.

"This step intensifies the partnership forged with George Glueck at the beginning of last year and places it on a new level," said Briegmann. "I am convinced that George's creative capabilities and experience will receive optimum support in this new constellation and I am looking forward to achieving many hits together."

George Glueck added: "The full integration of X-Cell within Universal Music Group is the logical consequence of our good and mutually beneficial collaboration over the past two years. Our joint goal is now to further extend the profile of our established label and to harness the new and additional potential available within the global Universal network to the best of our abilities in the interests of our artists."
